Item Description

The famous Ojuela Mine in Mexico is known for producing some of the best crystals of Hemimorphite in the world. Typically the specimens are not seen in good sized thumbnails, they are often miniature sized or larger, so fine thumbnails are fairly uncommon. This piece is a beautiful and showy display specimen featuring several sharp, well-formed, vitreous "sword"-shaped crystals and thin blades measuring up to 1.5 cm long, sitting on a very thin layer of oxidized matrix. The crystals range from translucent and white to virtually colorless and transparent. No major damage I can find, and I just love how to crystals are arranged on the piece. You don't see many good Hemimorphite thumbnails from this mine, and it's the kind of piece I would expect to find in Alex's collection, as he had such a wide range of specimens, including somewhat obscure thumbnails (even of common species) from classic localities like this.
From prestigious collection of Alex Schauss, a lifelong thumbnail mineral collector, whose collection we recently purchased ( https://www.irocks.com/collector-interview-alex-schauss )
