Hematite with Dolomite

Classic, old-time example of Specular Hematite from the venerable Florence Mine, which finally closed back in 1968. Along the surface of the botryoids, the terminations of the Hematite crystals express themselves as very fine blades, and looking from the sides the cross-sections show just how sharp, attractive, and interesting the radial growths are. And, of course, the valleys in between simply sparkle, as you would expect, with flashes off the micro crystals of Specular Hematite. This is an attractive, highly-representative specimen form one of England's historic iron mines. From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl, a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces.
