Item Description
Among the many great Hematites that the Wessels mine has produced, this particular specimen stands out for uniqueness of form, and has exceptional interest. The Hematite is a large, single crystal that is coated by Baryte on the prism faces. Not the termination, and not contacted back, just the faces. Preferential coatings are always fascinating, but this takes it even further by have variations even within the coating so that the crystal edges stand out. On top of that, there is a preferential growth of micro Andradite Garnets on selected faces. Amazing. Though it is contacted in back and there are a few tiny dings, I find that the quality of the specimen is not diminished at all. The aesthetics and mineralogical interest are both great. Overall, a terrific Wessels Hematite! valued $1500-2000
