Quartz on Hematite is one of the most recognizable combinations from the famous Florence Mine, the last of Europe's deep iron mines to close in the heart of England where it once fed the Industrial Revolution. Up to 1.1 cm in size, the gemmy and sharp Quartz crystals are nestled on a bed of shiny, metallic blades of Hematite that extend all across the matrix. Not entirely different than the many photos you see of people posing in a field of flowers, this attractive and distinct combination immediately invokes thoughts of the Florence Mine. There is a tiny bit of wear on a few spots along the Quartz crystals, but the beautiful contrast between the Quartz and Hematite creates an aesthetic that more than carries the day. The quartz is a unique style referred to as beta-quartz for its odd formations. Below the rich layer of Hematites is a matrix of classic, red Hematite 'kidney ore' that adds even more to the allure and historical connection to this piece. Probably from 1960s-1970s finds.
