Item Description

A sculptural, highly unusual rounded cluster of intergrown hematite variety martite pseudomorphs of octahedral magnetite crystals from this extinct Utah vein iron deposit in rhyolite. Martite is the name given to these hematite replacements after magnetite crystals. Alluvial-wear or fluvial-wear probably caused the very interesting rounded form of the lustrous, sub-metallic gray octos. Most such specimens from here are typically sharp octos. The locality is well-known for these unusual pseudos. Ex Art Soregaroli Collection and self-collected by him in the 1980s.
