Item Description
Martite is the name given to Hematite pseudomorphs after Magnetite. Sharp, well-formed Magnetite octahedrons are partially replaced by Hematite on this attractive small cabinet of beautifully intergrown crystals on beige colored matrix. Many faces show a lustrous, metallic-gray quality, while others have a matte finish from being partially pseudomorphed, and I can ever seen a bit of exposed red spots as well. The largest individual crystal crystal measures 1.5 cm. The specimen is moderately magnetic as well. This is a classic and excellent specimen from this less well-known extinct Utah iron deposit. From the worldwide collection of noted Idaho collector Geary Murdock. Among other accomplishments, Geary was responsible for discovering some of the finest gem grade deep blue Aquamarine crystals in the Sawtooth Mountains of Idaho - which remain arguably the finest Aquamarines from any North American locality. https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/36634006/geary-jack-murdock
