Item Description

Hydrohematite is an old synonym for Goethite and was originally considered as hydrated hematite (MINDAT). Amazingly lustrous, dramatic 3-dimensional bubbly botryoids fantastically cover the massive hematite matrix on this VERY RARE specimen from this ancient iron mine, abandoned in 1930 (MINDAT). Mineral specimens of any species are rare from here. It strongly resembles classic old English hematite or modern pieces from Morocco. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 8095 and acquired from the Cisneros' at Tucson in 1977. Previously in two German collections, including a Dr. Kraft in Berlin. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017).
