Hematite "needle ore" specimens are rare and desirable varietal from the famous old iron mines of Michigan and Wisconsin. Most such specimens are elongated, flattened and are called "feathers." This rare and unusual stout, 3-dimensional piece looks like a tree stump! The sculptural elongated curved fibers have shimmering chatoyant luster and are gray-brown.
