Item Description

Hematite "needle ore" specimens are rare and desirable varietal from the famous old iron mines of Michigan and Wisconsin. Most such specimens are elongated, flattened and are called "feathers." This rare and unusual stout, 3-dimensional piece looks like a tree stump! The sculptural elongated curved fibers have shimmering chatoyant luster and are gray-brown. The top is partially terminated and contacted. The piece displays well without aid. RARE style older and attractive 360-degree material from the Dr. Barratt Phillips Collection.
