Glassy, transparent, hematite-tinted, calcite scalenohedrons, to 2.8 cm, are festooned on the thin hematite matrix plate on this impressive and excellent large specimen from the famous iron mines at Egremont. Scattered broken crystals are noted in the interior, but have minimal impact to the overall stunning visual aspect of this old-time, large, classic and aesthetic two-sided piece from the Cynthia Payne Calcite Collection. This certainly dates to prior to World War I. Valued by the former dealer at $850 and worth it.
