Hematite-tinted Calcite & Quartz on Ilmenite (rare combo)

Item Description

Mineral specimens of ANY species are rare from the many localities in Wake County. This is a very showy, excellent and rare combination miniature of beautiful, glassy, tabular, parallel-growth, pokechip calcite rhombs with a very nifty iron oxide tinting. The rhombs are surrounded by small quartz points and the matrix is lustrous, metallic, ilmenite with patches of translucent, reddish-brown. This is a VERY RARE combination from this locale. The accompanying label says this is ankerite, which is not listed in MINDAT for the county. MUCH BETTER IN PERSON.
