Item Description
This piece came labeled as coming from "Itibiara", which is most likely Itumbiara, but I can't find any examples of Hematite from this area. This group features some of the thickest Hematite crystals that I've seen from any Brazilian locality, or just about anywhere else for that matter. The crystals have lovely hexagonal form with a matte steel grey color and only a bit of a superficial roughness around the edges. Small golden acicular Rutile crystals are epitaxially growing on both sides of the piece. A nice overall example of this material from a somewaht dubious origin. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#2207). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
