Item Description
A large and exceptional "pseudoscalenohedral" Hematite crystal dominates this piece from the Kalahari Manganese Fields in South Africa. This is a rare habit for the species, and a giant example in a display specimen of balance and quality overall. It is an impressive display: The main Hematite crystal measures 4cm in length and 3.3cm in width and displays a distinct metallic luster that ranges from bright to satiny. The Wessels Mine in particular has produced some great Hematite specimens and this is one of them! Several smaller Hematite scalenohedrons are clustered around the base along patches of tiny Andradite Garnet crystals. Old specimen, probably from the time period of around the late 1990s to the early 2000s. We have not seen anything like this in some time. For the species and the location, an important piece.
