Hematite (''roses'') with iron-coated Quartz

A wonderful full cabinet sized three-dimensional display specimen of the famous (and now hard to find) specimens of Hematite with Quartz from Jinlong Hill, China. The piece is filled with excellent, "roses" of dark matte grey Hematite, comprising dozens of very thin blades, which are mixed among prismatic hexagonal crystals of Quartz with a gentle yellow-orange iron oxide coating on the surface. I love the fact that this is a big and showy specimen, and despite a bit of roughness around the base / periphery, it's still in really good condition overall. Despite the fact that these are contemporary, these specimens somehow have a "classic" look to them in my mind. Valued at $2,500 for size, quality, aesthetics and the fact that these are not coming out anymore and good ones are continuing to rise in value. From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#215 C), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel.
