Item Description

A wonderful non-Alpine "Iron Rose" of hematite from the classic Ouro Preto district in Brazil. The hexagonal blades on this specimen have excellent, splendent, metallic silvery-grey faces forming the classic "rose" shape that makes these specimens so desirable. This is a thick one is and when looked at from the edge you can see that it consists of more than several dozen separate platy crystals pressed together. Very modest contacting is noted on both sides and the top. It looks great from either side. Most date to the 1960s or 1970s. This is excellent material and compares very favorably with the style of European Alpine pieces. Valued at $300-350.
