The locality at Chub Lake, New York dates back to 1853 and is the source of beautiful yet elusive Hematite specimens. We've only seen a select few of these specimens over the years, and this might be the first pieces we've ever had to offer in the auctions. This dramatic and showy full sized cabinet specimen is loaded with hundreds of excellent, splendent, sharp, metallic, bladed, hexagonal crystals of a dark steel-black hue forming semi-"rosette"-esque crystal groups with minor accenting beige colored Dolomite on one edge, sitting on matrix. When viewed up close, the Hematites look quite similar to the world-class crystals from the Swiss Alps! There are crystals on both the front and back of the piece, and nearly all of them are pristine. A major Hematite specimen from this little-known locale. Valued in our inventory at $1,500.
