Item Description

The countless pegmatites around Park and Teller County, Colorado are the source for some of the world's finest Amazonite specimens. Along with minerals like Smoky Quartz and Fluorite, these pegmatites also produce some of the most well-known and finest quality pseudomorphs of Hematite after Siderite. This piece is a great example of said material featuring many very sharp, well-formed rhombic crystals of what were once Siderite that have been replaced by reddish-black Hematite sitting on cream colored Microcline matrix. The largest pseudomorph measures 1.4 cm. Nearly every crystal is pristine, but if you look on the left side of the piece, you can see that a couple of the crystals are contacted, and reveal a somewhat "lattice"-like hollow interior. Very showy and good quality for this classic material from Colorado. From the noted pseudomorph collection of Dr. Wouter van Tichelen of Belgium.
