Hematite pseudomorph after Marcasite (classic material)

Item Description

This a fine quality specimen of these classic Hematite pseudomorphs after Marcasite from the White Desert. I would say that the majority of the pieces you'll see from this locality feature more slender groups forming "star"-like bursts, and this piece is a great example of said material. The piece is essentially a complete "floater" with no real point of attachment that I can find and features many "blades" of what used to be Marcasite, now preserved quite beautifully by dark reddish-bronze metallic Hematite. The largest individual crystal measures about 1.5 cm. This is a good one, and worth adding to any pseudomorph collection for the size, quality and beautiful crystallization. I love the fact that the original Marcasite crystals are still quite sharp and well-defined, eve after being replaced by the Hematite.
