Hematite pseudomorph after Marcasite (classic material)

A wonderful miniature sized specimen of the famous Hematite pseudomorphs after Marcasite from the White Desert. Most of the pieces you'll see from this locality feature more slender groups forming "star"-like bursts, and this piece is a great example of said material. The piece is essentially a complete "floater" with no real point of attachment that I can find and features several "arms" of what used to be Marcasite, now preserved quite beautifully by dark reddish-bronze metallic Hematite. This is a good one, and worth adding to any pseudomorph collection for the size, quality and beautiful crystallization. I love the fact that the original Marcasite crystals are still quite sharp and well-defined, eve after being replaced by the Hematite. From the collection of Richard ("Dick") Philip Hauck formerly of Bloomfield, New Jersey and now a resident of Franklin, New Jersey. Dick is an avid collector of minerals, books, and mining memorabilia, along with being an accomplished author in the mineral world. Arguably, his greatest claim to fame is being the co-founder of the Sterling Hill Mining Museum in Ogdensburg, NJ. Dick purchased the land on which the Sterling Hill Mine resides in 1988, and the museum has been running strong since.
