Item Description

A rarely seen specimen of Hematite pseudomorphing a "feathery" group of scalenohedral Calcite from the Orogrande Mining District in Otero County, New Mexico. The old label accompanying the piece originally describes it as "Ferro-Calcite" from the Graphic Mine, but Dave Stoudt's label has more accurate locality information, and also states it is a pseudomorph, and not an iron-bearing Calcite. It's one of the very few examples we've seen. The rich reddish-brown hue on the surface gives the piece a lot of character, and the fact that it's in superb condition makes it all the more enticing. A splendid rare locality pseudomorph specimen.
From the collection of Dave Stoudt.
