Item Description
A beautiful and rather rare pseudomorph from the Thomas Range in Utah. This area is best known for its world-class Red Beryl crystals, along with Bixbyite and Topaz, but these pseudomorphs are found occasionally, and to the best of my knowledge, they are unique. This piece is a rich group comprising many pseudomorphs of metallic grey Hematite which has replaced trapezohedral crystals of Almandine Garnet measuring up to about 5 mm in diameter. A tiny bit of attached rhyolite can be seen on the back. Upon close inspection, there are several individual blades of black Hematite which can be seen growing on top of the pseudomorphs. I think this specimen might have the highest number of pseudomorphs on a single specimen that I can remember from this area. A really attractive and notably hard to find piece that would make a superb addition to any pseudomorph suite or a collection of minerals from the Thomas Range.
Ex Doxsee collection.
