Item Description
A rare and rich, old-time pseudomorph from the historic mines of Saxony. Brick-red hematite has replaced a dense, attractive mounded cluster of sharp pyrite cubes in the hematite and quartz matrix. On its own merits, a good specimen. This rare old-timer is from the collection of Sir Robert Ferguson (1769-1840) ,which we first helped bring to market back in the late 1990s. He was a member of Parliament and the landed nobility from Fife, Scotland (he had stopped collecting by 1810 AS A RESULT OF A DIVORCE SETTLEMENT INVOLVING LORD ELGIN, OF THE MARBLES FAME!). A real antique! From a major rarities collection.
