Item Description
Martite is a name often given to Hematite pseudomorphs after Magnetite (and you can still find these in old collections labelled as Martite, not a real species now). Here, sharp, well-formed Magnetite octahedrons are replaced by Hematite on this very attractive miniature. The luster on these metallic-grey, attractive, and sharp crystals is good. The singles range up to about 0.8 cm on edge, and the twins, which make these pseudo-octahedrons, are about 1.1 cm tip to tip. The specimen is gently magnetic, as well. This is a classic, very fine example of the pseudomorphs from this less well-known, and extinct, Utah iron deposit. A fne crystallized example of this rarity.
