This is a dramatic example of these replacements of hematite by magnetite, retaining sharp crystals of high fidelity! A significant and quite large cabinet specimen chosen by Rock from the early examples that came out in the late 1990s and early 2000s from a volcanic region in Argentina, now not accessible for collecting. Specimens like this were NEVER EVER COMMON even in their heyday, and now this is 20 years ago. Alfredo Petrov and John Attard brought out the first great examples to the market, and Rock Currier was friends with both. This shows his access - a spectacular specimen all around, dramatic in shape and form but also with the quality you would want in a miniature. When they turn up, specimens of this superior size and style are easily seen at shows in the $7500-10k range. Even Rock's old appraisal from a decade ago had this at a high value.
