Item Description

A rare and excellent large old-time pseudomorph from Germany. Three, sharp, lustrous, dark brown hematite after calcite scalenohedrons are dramatically clustered on the massive hematite matrix. The large pseudo is 4.3 cm. All three pseudos have gently cleaved to cleaved terminations, but certainly have minimal impact in the overall context of this significant large pseudomorph. This is classic, old-time material from the iron mines at Iserlohn, Sauerland. Rare, today, to see on the market. Ex Columbia University Collection. The School of Mines label dates from 1864-1896.
