Item Description

Martite is an UNCOMMON variety of hematite and is the name given for hematite pseudomorphs after magnetite crystals. This sharp, euhedral, moderately lustrous, grayish-red pseudo has a sharp termination and is from a RARE New Mexico locality for martite - the Hanover-Fierro District of Grant County. Undoubtably old material, but no proof. This was a LARGE magnetite crystal and is neatly accented by a small crystal at the base. Ex Dave Stoudt Collection.
