Item Description

Hematite pseudomorphs after calcite are rare from the famous iron mines at Egremont. Lustrous, brownish-gray hematite has pseudomorphed sharp, striated, blocky calcite scalenohedrons. The pseudos rest on a layered massive hematite matrix. Old-time, rare material from the Giancarlo Fioravanti Collection and obtained from the Birmingham City Museum in 1977.
