Hematite is known from many worldwide localities, and famously from old European localities like the Swiss Alps, Cumberland (Cumbria), England and the Isle of Elba, Italy. While those old classics will always have a place in collector's hearts, the more contemporary Hematites from South Africa are just as impressive in terms of quality. At their best, they are hands down some of the finest examples of crystallized Hematite extant. This stellar miniature features a few superb quality, razor-sharp, highly splendent, bright silvery metallic, robust trigonal crystals of Hematite measuring up to 2.6 cm surrounded by tiny black Hausmannite crystals with minor associated orange colored Andradite Garnet and a bit of white bladed Barite. The immeasurably reflective faces of the Hematite crystals is as good as it gets for the species, incredibly difficult to reproduce in photos, so please take the time to view the accompanying video. The piece is in outstanding condition, with no major damage, only a small "rub" on the back edge of the larger crystal that I can see with the naked eye.
