Hematite on Rutile ''star'' (ex Rolando Gioia Collection)

A beautiful classic example of the famous Rutile "stars" from Novo Horizonte, Brazil. Typically, you will see the "needles" of Rutile radiating from a central "core" of Hematite, but this piece has the odd distinction of having a partial coating of dull grey-black Hematite on TOP of the Rutile crystals., which is quite rare in my experience with this material. The back side of the specimen is actually completely covered with Hematite. Pieces like this are few and far between, and if you collect minerals from Brazil or specifically pieces from Novo Horizonte, or even oxides, this is a unique piece and would make a great addition to your collection.
