Hematite on Quartz (ex Kay Robertson Collection)

Item Description

Brilliant metallic, bladed crystals of Hematite measuring up to 1.0 cm are sitting beautifully on gemmy colorless Quartz crystals with a bit of reddish-brown iron staining. The main Hematite is thick, razor-sharp and better than the photos might indicate. Smaller Hematite blades can be seen in various spots on the display side of the specimen. One of the labels accompanying the piece states it's from Quartzite, while another says Bouse, so I'm putting down both localities for reference. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#3441). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
