Item Description

The Swiss Alps are famous for producing some of the finest quality examples of some well-known minerals in thew orld. The famed Cavradischlucht (Cavradi Gorge) is certainly one of the most well-known localities for Hematite in the world, and they have been staples of collections for many years. . This wonderful miniature features a 2.2 cm, fine quality group of highly lustrous (splendent), metallic, silvery-grey colored blades of Hematite aesthetically perched atop lustrous white/colorless Quartz matrix. Typically the Hematites from this famous locale are asociated with gemmy, blood red Rutile and I found a few small very dark red Rutile crystals which are epitaxially overgrowing the Hematites on the back of the piece.
