Item Description

Hematite "kidney ore" isn't very well known outside of the UK or the iron ranges of the US and this piece originates from Germany, and is much more rare! This is a very good example of botryoidal Hematite from a locality in the Harz Mountains displaying a silky, gray metallic luster with reddish, earthy Hematite highlights. There are a myriad of interconnected, low-profile botryoids present all around the piece ranging up to several millimeters in size and one can even discern the radial growth pattern on the exposed portions of the Hematite on the backside. It's beautiful all the way around and it's a very historic piece that probably dates to the mid 1800s (old label accompanies). Ex. Kay Robertson collection. A hefty, showy specimen from an unusual locale!
