Item Description

Two layers of two-toned, bubbly botryoidal hematite "kidney ore" rest atop layered massive hematite and limonite on this showy and rich iron ore specimen from the historic, extinct iron mines of Cumbria. The top layer is classic rust-red kidney ore and is underlain by lustrous burnished dark reddish-brown kidney ore. Formerly in the Taldino Testone Collection. Ex Chet Lemanski Collection No. 0269 and acquired from Dick Hauck in 1991. Classic and representative old Iron Ore, literally the food for the Industrial Revolution, from Cumbria.
