Item Description
Classic and excellent mounded mammilary hematite "kidney ore" from this famous Egremont iron mine. The sculptural rust-red bubbly botryoids have fine luster and are nicely accented with sparkly patches of tiny hematite-included quartz crystals. A very fine 360-degree piece. It has a heart shape in one view. The backside reveals the radial banding of the acicular hematite crystals, adding much character. Choice old-time material from the Kay Robertson Collection # 419. She acquired this specimen in the 1950s or earlier from Scott Williams, according to her label. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record).
