A very attractive large example of classic "Kidney Ore" hematite from the well-known Beckermet Mine, which could be rfom the 1800s or from more recent mining that ended in the 1960s. Lustrous reniform, rust-red layered hematite with a patch of sparkly specular hematite forms this impressive mounded 360-degree piece. This iron mine operated from 1903 to 1973 and produced excellent specimens of kidney ore, specular hematite and quartz. Ex Chet Lemanski Collection and acquired from Howard Belsky in 1985. Howard started as a mineral dealer at age 13 in 1972, became a sophisticated dealer and died tragically at age 28 in 1987. He was noted for his English collection. Rich and hefty iron ore at 1637 grams or 3.6 pounds mass, this is a gorgeous, high-level specimen that has much more subtlety than most, and would fit in any collection. If for sale at a show in Europe, they do tend to be priced very high when they have the extra "sparkle" on them!
