Item Description
Swiss Hematite "Iron Roses" are often considered to be the finest representations in the world from the standpoint of form, luster and sheer beauty. Rarely does a metallic mineral inspire such awe as the famous "eisenrosen" do, and they are valued in Switzerland as much as any other treasure from the Alps. This particular specimen hosts a few predominant, very sharp, lustrous, beautiful, layered, metallic silvery-grey "roses" of Hematite measuring up to 2.5 cm across which are associated with translucent, lustrous crystals of Adularia on matrix. It is difficult to obtain Hematites on matrix from any Swiss locality in my experience, especially from Fibbia. The piece is in great shape overall, with only a small "rub" near the base of the piece. A fantastic, and rather worthwhile small cabinet size display specimen from one of the most well known Swiss localities for this beloved material. From the famous Alpine collectio of Richard A. Kosnar, and his hand-painted catalogue number (11/232) can be seen on the base of the piece. A CLASSIC antique specimen of this most beloved material from one of the quintessential localities for "Iron Roses". Valued at $4000 due to the excellent quality, aesthetics, and the fact that Swiss minerals are essentially valued higher than pieces from other Alpine countries.
