Item Description
A beautiful Alpine Hematite specimen featuring classic "iron rose" habit crystals. The Swiss Alps are best known for their Hematite "iron roses", but this piece is from the lesser known Prägraten am Großvenediger locality in the Tyrol of Austria. This cabinet sized display specimen hosts several highly lustrous, metallic, silvery-grey colored "rose" groups of Hematite measuring up to 9 mm across associated with silvery colored Calcite scalenohedra on host rock matrix. There are a few little nicks, but overall the Hematites are in fine shape. This is the FIRST specimen of Hematite that we've had to offer from this locality. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#8948). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
