Item Description
Typically one associates Alpine "iron rose" Hematites with the famous specimens from Switzerland, but the Murchnerkar area in the Zillertal of Austria has produced some fantastic specimens over the years. These are arguably more desirable in terms of a collector's standpoint, becuase they are less common on the market, and showy display specimens are incredibly hard to find. This full sized thumbnail features a few beautiful metallic, silvery "roses" of Hematite measuring up to 1.5 cm across aesthetically perched atop matrix. The main "rose" at the top of the specimen is particularly attractive as it's complete all the way around, and it's free-standing - not lying flat on the matrix, which is notably hard to find in this material. From the worldwide thumbnail / miniature collection of Irv Brown.
