Item Description
A wonderful non-Alpine-type "Iron Rose" of hematite from Minas Gerais, Brazil. The large, stout cluster of parallel-growth, hexagonal black blades on this specimen have excellent, splendent, metallic silvery-grey faces forming the classic "rose" shape that makes these specimens so desirable. Light brown iron oxides on the individual plate edges really accentuate the crystal form of this fine piece. The excellent, older piece is complete all-around and has just a bit of bruising on the crest of the piece. Few of such form come out, in good condition, and most date to the 1960s or 70s. This is an excellent example and compares very favorably with the style of (more expensive!) European Alpine pieces. Ex Bob Trimingham Collection and acquired in 1984. According to his label, the piece belonged to Globe, Arizona mortician F. Jones (died in the 1960s) and was purchased from Ed McDole in November, 1958. Truly an old-time and fine Minas Gerais iron rose.
