Item Description

PLEASE NOTE: The label on this specimen says that it is from "Itibiara", which I believe has to most likely be Itumbiara. With that said, I can't find any examples of Hematite "roses" from Itumbiara, so it's not quite clear where this piece was found. With that said, this full-sized thumbnail features the classic "rose" habit, which is best-known from places like Brazil and the European Alps. This piece is notably thick, and is composed of many brilliant, sharp, well-formed, silvery-grey colored blades with a bit of associated white Quartz. If you view the piece from the edge, you can see that it consists of many separate platy crystals pressed together. An oxidation of reddish-brown iron oxide on the exterior edges gives the piece some depth and character as well. Good shape for the most part, though a few small bruises can be seen here and there. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#2225). Kay was a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics. She nearly lived 100 years from April 1920 - March 2020.
