Item Description
A remarkable non-Alpine-type "Iron Rose" of hematite from Minas Gerais, Brazil. The large, stout cluster of striking parallel-growth, hexagonal black blades on this specimen have excellent, splendent, metallic silvery-grey faces forming the classic "rose" shape that makes these specimens so desirable. This excellent, older two-sided piece is complete all-around and the noted basal periphery wear on both sides is certainly only a modest detraction. Few of such form came out, in good condition, and most date to the 1960s or 70s. This is an excellent example and compares very favorably with the style of (more expensive!) European Alpine pieces. Ex Dr. Barratt Phillips Collection. Truly an old-time and fine Minas Gerais iron rose. valued $800-1000
