Item Description
Aesthetically sculptural non-Alpine-type "Iron Rose" of hematite from Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais, Brazil, source of famed "Imperial" Topaz crystals. Classic parallel-growth, hexagonal black hematite blades make a wonderful specimen. The blades have excellent, splendent, metallic silvery-grey faces forming the classic "rose" shape that makes these specimens so desirable. Light brown iron oxides on the individual plate edges really accentuate the crystal form of this fine piece. The large plate is pristine. The excellent, older piece is complete all-around and nearly pristine, with only a bit of bruising along the right edge. Few of such form come out, in good condition, and most date to the 1960s or 70s. This is an excellent example and compares very favorably with the style of (more expensive!) European Alpine pieces. Truly an older and fine Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais iron rose miniature. Valued at $500-750.
