Item Description

Quartz specimens are rare from this old Washington County area. The striking, large vug is filled with unusual looking, glassy, translucent quartz crystals tinted yellow to orange by hematite inclusions. They resemble the "cactus" quartz from South Africa, but this is MUCH RARER. The Old Mines area of Washington County were surface deposits mined for baryte, galena, iron and zinc well before the discovery by core drilling of the well-known Viburnum Trend in the 1960s. Impressive, rare and large Missouri quartz.
