Item Description
A dramatic and exceptional, large calcite plate from Santa Eulalia, Mexico and the Dave Stoudt Mexico Collection # 1077. This excellent piece has three generations of calcite. Sharp, lustrous, and translucent, dogtooth calcite crystals have overgrown an earlier generation of brown, hematite-tinted crystals. You can clearly see the hematite phantoms. This piece is highly unusual, in that many of the scalenohedrons are preferentially fully coated with hematite and tiny, hematite-tinted calcite rhombs, that stand out prominently next to calcites with no hematite. Crystals reach about 4.3 cm on this piece. The crystal field is essentially pristine, and the periphery wear has very minimal impact on this impressive large piece.
