Hematite-included Calcite (excellent)

Item Description

A dramatic and exceptional, large calcite plate from recent finds at Santa Eulalia, Mexico. This excellent piece has two generations of calcite. Lustrous, translucent, calcite scalenohedrons have an orangey-brown interior hematite tinting. Striking, larger calcite spikes have some visible red hematite inclusions and chocolate-brown hematite coatings with surreal spherules on the coatings. Crystals reach about 5.0 cm on this piece. The crystal field is nearly pristine with only a few gently bruised tips, and the periphery wear has very minimal impact on this impressive large piece. It displays grandly from either direction. Certainly one of the finest large Santa Eulalia plates we have offered at auction.
