Item Description

A classic specimen of the famous Casa de Pedra Hematites featuring many sharp, HIGHLY lustrous / splendent, silvery-black, metallic, pseudo-cubic (trigonal) crystals measuring up to 2.1 cm free of matrix. The beautiful mirror bright luster combined with the gorgeous crystallization is really eye-catching. The crystals for the most part in good shape, though there are a few minor nicks, and obviously the base / back is contacted where it was removed from the pocket wall. The Casa de Pedra Mine is one of the largest iron deposits and open pit mines in Brazil, and the only reported mineral from this locality is Hematite. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#9855). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
