Item Description

Preserved hematite and feldspar specimens are uncommon from this classic locale, where iron mining opened in the 12th century and closed in 1878 (mindat). This showy and colorful combination features lustrous, striated hematite plates and starkly contrasting rose-red feldspar nicely set atop the hefty, sculptural large granular hematite matrix. Self-collected by Ed David in 2001. Ed was Science Advisor to President Nixon and assembled several world-class collections before passing away in 2017. 545 grams or1.2 pounds mass. A rare and excellent large combination from the historic locale with a fine provenance.
