Item Description

Elongated, large hematite feathers are rare from the old iron mines of Iron County. This remarkably sculptural, tapered and ribbed hematite has bright metallic luster to add to the mahogany-brown color. Very nearly pristine, with only one gently bruised tip on the narrow end. This artistic specimen is from a closed (since 1967) major underground iron mine in Wisconsin. It looks like a shallow-draft canoe in the horizontal views. Pieces in this quality and form are very uncommon.
