Hematite (excellent thumbnail) (ex Kay Robertson Collection)

Item Description

The Hematite specimens from Nador are certainly some of the most unique examples of the species extant. They are often notably flattened / tabular and often show pronounced skeletal or "hoppered" growth. This piece is an excellent thumbnail specimen of this classic material featuring a razor-sharp, highly lustrous / splendent, deep silvery-black colored prismatic crystal of Hematite free of matrix with a beautiful cavernous opening at the top which leads into a narrow hollow channel running through the length of the specimen. The combination of the incredibly smooth, mirror-bright faces against the pronounced repeating lines of the skeletal growth is mesmerizing. No damage that I can see with the naked eye. A must have for any thumbnail collector or a fan of worldwide Hematites. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#12321). Kay was a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics. She nearly lived 100 years from April 1920 - March 2020.
