Item Description

Typically the Hematites from Juab County, Utah are either "clunky" and non-descript or micro material, but this piece is certainly one of the best crystallized thumbnails of the material that we've ever had to offer. The piece is loaded with high quality, razor-sharp, silvery-black, platy, hexagonal crystals intergrown to create a somewhat "flower"-like formation of little "petals" overlaying one another. No matrix, and the piece is actually a thin crystallized plate with no other associated minerals. The largest individual crystal measures 5 mm across. I can see one broken crystal on the top edge, but the rest of the piece looks to be in fine shape to the naked eye. If you collect thumbnails, worldwide Hematites or minerals from Utah, do not pass this one up as it is much better than your run-of-the-mill specimens from this famous specimen producing area in Western Utah. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#9062). Kay was a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics. She nearly lived 100 years from April 1920 - March 2020.
