Item Description
Novo Horizonte is well-known to collectors for three minerals: Quartz, Rutile and Hematite. Typically the Hematite crystals are seen as inclusions inside of Quartz, and are not often found in find crystals, usually thin blades without euhedral form. THIS piece however is a strikingly good example as it not only has notably sharp, well-formed, fairly thick hexagonal blades of a dark metallic grey hue, but they are also very good sized for the locality. The largest crystal measures 3.1 cm across, which is larger than most you'll find from Novo Horizonte. There are some contacted edges, so the piece is not pristine, but it's actually a bit fortuitous, as you can see small acicular golden Rutile needles in the contacted areas, growing epitaxially, a sure sign that the piece from Novo Horizonte. A great miniature sized display specimen for the locality, certain one of the best Hematites I can remember having to offer from the locality.
